How Shamrock helped me to improve my English Bibash Chhetri

My name is Bibash Chhetri. I am 14 years old and am studying in class 9 with 10 other students. It has been 4 years that I have been at Shamrock. I can proudly say that I have improved my English not only in reading and writing but also in speaking. On top of Shamrock being an English Boarding School, we get many opportunities to interact with volunteers from all over the world.

When I first came to Shamrock, I could barley talk about myself but now I have the vocabulary and confidence to speak English on topics I know about. There is still a lot for me to learn, but I am proud of what I have achieved so far! I also get to practice speaking English from activities we do like drama, ticket selling, presentations and other things. I would like to share my experience of ticket selling. The first time I went ticket selling for our school play I was grouped with our seniors. I just said “Hello” and “Thank you”.  The last time however,  I  was the leader of my group, in which we as a team managed to sell the most tickets of all. My English has also improved vastly through drama. The first time I took part in a play was at Shamrock in class 6, when my English was not good and my confidence talking in front of crowds was also very low. Over the years since then, my English speaking and confidence has got better and better. As a result, in last years play I was cast as Charlie, in “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”. It allowed me to further improve my ability and confidence in speaking English.

In this way, Shamrock has been a fantastic place for me to develop, not only in terms of my English, but as a whole. I have no doubt that Shamrock has given me the opportunity to be a better person and will continue to do so.
